Laser To Print Part 2

The second part of laser printing involved taking my treated blocks (a layer of PVA and water and a layer of shellac) and printing them in exactly the same way as lino printing.

From my original drawing I had made two halftone blocks with slightly different half-tone patterns. I found that a combination of these in different colours or tones allowed me to pull both the dark areas and the details out of the print.

The accuracy of this method and both the elements of the printing and the natural feel of the wood itself give a very warm and human feel to something that was created digitally.

I am already considering a large (A0) print from a digital design which could utilise both the router and the offset printing press, working in the same way with completely different tools.
